Depression Treatment

What is Depression?
|

Depression is defined as a persistently sad mood that impacts a person' s physical and emotional state as well as other areas of their life including work and personal relationships.

Depression is not a personal failing or weakness of character.  It is a real, medical illness which can be diagnosed and treated successfully.

The Good News

There is hope and help for your recovery.  Psychotherapy, alternative therapies and psychiatric medications are all options to discuss with your counselor.  Together you will form an effective depression treatment plan which allows healing to begin immediately.

In the mean time, self-care for those struggling with depression is key to begin a healing process.  Consider adding into your life intentionally moving, talking and eating healthy foods each day.  Regular exercise helps your whole body work better including your brain and emotions.

Reach out and talk to a trusted friend as well as seeking professional help from a counselor or nurse practitioner.

We are social creatures and a big part of our mental health comes from talking with others and interacting with people every day.

If you've become isolated and you feel detached from others, take steps to reconnect. Joining clubs, support groups or church groups is a great way to start.

Gradually begin to incorporate foods which bring your diet into balance. Consider increasing your water intake and reducing caffeine, sugar and alcohol. Talk to your counselor for more information regarding living with and healing from depression.

Evaluate Your Nutrition
Work with your doctor, chiropractor or Nurse to evaluate your diet.

While it makes sense, we may not always remember that the fuel we put into our bodies affects more than just the way our bodies look.

Our energy level, mental alertness, moods and ability to handle life's common stresses are all affected by what we eat.
