Description
Dr. Henesy is a therapist and an educator, with a vast knowledge of theory and practice. Her approach to counseling is relational and client-centered; we will work in collaboration to explore your emotions, beliefs, and your personal goals for therapy. She creates a safe and welcoming environment to discuss the full range of human experiences, and to guide you in introspection and insight. Her hope is that through self-awareness and self-compassion you will find yourself choosing paths that are aligned with your authentic self.
Approaches she draws from include feminist, Rogerian, existential, and trauma-informed. She is experienced in talking with clients about concerns such as anxiety, depression, autism, complex trauma, oppression and traumatic stress, relationships, loss, grief, and major life transitions. Additionally, she specializes in LGBTQ+ affirmative counseling and advocacy.
Dr. Henesy has been a co-author on 9 professional publications and has given over 20 professional presentations via conferences and webinars. She has received awards for her work from the Association for LGBT Issues in Counseling, the Florida Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development, and the Chi Sigma Iota International Counseling Honor Society. She has been recognized as an emerging leader by both the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision and the Association for Assessment and Research in Counseling.
