Description
“We are not what happened to us; we are what we wish to become” – Carl Jung
My therapeutic practice focuses on a clinical evidence-based approach, utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF CBT). It is important that clients feel heard, supported, and empowered. I also maintain a high regard for cultural sensitivity, diversity, equality, and equity, so all clients feel welcomed and accepted for who they are.
When I approach therapy with clients, I do so in a strength-based and holistic way. Not only acknowledging lived and ongoing life experiences but also incorporating one’s unique and complex identity, making therapy a completely personal experience.
Strength-based approach to therapy acknowledges the beautiful and unique human power and strength that every human carries within themselves. It encourages one to look beyond one’s problems, deficiencies, and pathologies and focuses on resiliency, courage, commitment to improvement, and self -agency.
Finally, equally important to strength-based is appreciating the client’s personal and multifaceted identity. When we approach mental health in a holistic way, we place importance and value on the various parts of a person’s all-encompassing identity. Elements such as history, culture, faith, language, heritage, and sexual and gender identity all play a vital role when it comes to addressing mental health and self-improvement.
